The Project:
In a world-first, Greenpeace installed a towering portal to the Antarctic in London's iconic Trafalgar Square to show the world that our oceans are worth protecting. The huge structure (4m tall and weighing almost 4 tonnes) was broadcasting live from the remote Antarctic Peninsula, where a Greenpeace International expedition discovered a new penguin colony, offering people the unique opportunity to see face-to-face the beauty and wonder of this fragile region.
The initiative, run by Greenpeace UK, is part of Greenpeace's Protect the Oceans campaign, calling for ocean protection in the Antarctic and beyond through a Global Ocean Treaty that could be agreed at the UN in March.
